B21 CHASSIS REGISTER

The B21 was Chevron's design for the 1972 European 2-litre Championship and was a development of the previous year's successful B19 that finished second in the European series, there were revisions to the body shape and to the suspension. The B21 employed an aluminium monocoque with a steel subframe at the rear for the engine and the 5-speed Hewland gearbox.

The European 2-litre series proved to be very competitive with Chevron locked in battle for the whole season with the works Abarths and the Lola T290. The B21 took two race wins during the year at the Salzburgring and Montjuich Park when Dieter Quester in the B21 with its development works BMW engine was victorious. At the finish of the season Osella Abarth driver Arturo Merzario won the Drivers title from the Chevron-mounted John Burton whilst in the Manufacturers Championship Abarth scored 112 points, Chevron 109 and Lola 105, it couldn't have been much closer! At the end of the season Jochen Mass and Gerry Birrell won the the South African Springbok Series in their works Team Gunston car.
